You can submit the application either in person or through your representative at the relevant registration authority or online via the i-Kfz portal. You can use the i-Kfz-Portal if your vehicle was last registered no longer than 1 January 2015, so that the necessary security code is already present on the registration document Part I (formerly the vehicle registration document). No identification of the owner is required for online deregistration.
If you would like to deregister your vehicle online, please follow these steps:
1. call up the i-Kfz portal of the responsible registration authority (the link can be found above in the "Online application" section).
2. Enter the vehicle's licence plate number in the application mask of the i-Kfz portal.
3. Uncover the security code of the registration certificate part I .
4remove the cover from the stamp stickers on the licence plate (note: as soon as the security codes are exposed, the licence plate is invalid and the vehicle may no longer be used on the road).
5. Enter the exposed security codes in the application screen of the i-vehicle portal.
6. If necessary, reserve licence plates if you wish to re-register the vehicle with the same licence plates in the same registration district at a later date.
7. Application data is automatically validated.
8. Online payment of the fee: You will be forwarded directly to the payment service provider. The choice of payment method varies depending on the licensing authority. As a rule, you can pay by credit card or PayPal.
9. Confirm entries and application.
10. Application is automatically checked in real time.
11. Confirmation of deregistration immediately available online.
12. The registration authority sends a letter informing you of the deregistration by post to the owner's address stored in the Central Vehicle Register (ZFZR).
If one of the steps is not completed successfully, you can contact the responsible registration authority.
