If you only use a vehicle regularly during certain periods, you have the option of applying for a seasonal licence plate. This may be the case, for example, if you own a motorbike, a convertible or a motorhome.
A seasonal licence plate serves to identify the owner and the period of operation.
When registering your vehicle, you specify the operating period during which you wish to use the vehicle each year. You must take out motor vehicle insurance corresponding to the operating period in advance. The operating period can be between 2 and 11 full months per year.
Outside the operating period, you may not drive the vehicle on public roads and must park it away from public roads and places, for example in a private car park. The operating period is shown on the right-hand side of the licence plate as a fraction. for example, "05/11" means that you may use the vehicle from May to November.
You apply for registration in person or online with the internet-based vehicle registration i-Kfz. You must have the licence plates embossed yourself.
